What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?

Hey, All! Greg usually takes over the blog on non-travel days, but (shock, not shocked!) he has some work to do, so I’m going to keep writing for now.

Since today’s forecast was for a balmy summer day in the 90’s, we opted for an outdoor activity day—the Valley of Fire. We drove throughout the park, and also did a technically short hike to Rainbow Canyon. Note to self: I hate hiking on loose sand, avoid in future hikes.

The park is absolutely beautiful. Incredibly hot. We saw quite a bit of wildlife, though—several chuckwallas, several big horn sheep (including a baby!), several desert iguana (none of whom wanted to be caught by Ryan), and a hawk swooping into its nest on the side of a cliff. Rainbow Canyon was about a mile round trip hike. We completed it in the recommended time and kept hydrated, but the heat did make it seem like we were out there much longer.

Because we love the outdoors (and that really is true), and again, the mild June temperatures in the Nevada desert, we opted to go for another scenic drive in a slightly different direction, Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon has a very nice loop drive. We added gopher snake to our list of animals, but didn’t spot any of the wild burros or horses that were a possibility.

A quick stop back at the RV for a Kevin check, and then to one of Greg’s favorite restaurants for dinner, King’s Fish House.
