Day Three - Ireland

Sofa beds are all the sunshine and kittens I remember.  Melissa and I sacrifice for our children.  Each one had a nice fluffy bed and we were relegated to a medieval torture device just this side of the iron maiden.  Ok, maybe it wasn’t that bad.  But it was not lovely either.  For that reason, we moved on down the road.  We are now booked in what appears to be a very lovely B&B a little closer to the fun activities we have planned for days four and five.

After a bit of a sleepless night, I was able to continue my passion in life: driving.  We scooted up the motorway to Ashford castle to see our new friend Tommy.  Tommy is a falconer with the Ireland School of Falconry.  We took two Harris Hawks, Stoker and Maya, into the woods for and hour and a half.  It was a pretty unbelievable experience.  At one point Audrey had one hawk on her glove and one on her shoulder.

Our next stop was The Ross Errilly Friary Ruins.  It is very interesting to see this massive structure in the middle of a farmer’s field.  This Friary was founded in 1353, very cool stuff.

Then it was back into the massive minivan and on the road again.  We checked out the new B&B and decided it was the place for us.  Woo Hoo! No more sofa bed.  We got all checked in and headed down to the Creamery at Bunratty Castle.  Dinner was delicious.
