Another Long Friday, Arrivederci Italy!

As forewarned, we woke up at 4am to start the return journey. We met the water taxi at the hotel at 5am to take us to the airport. It is the first, and may be the only, time we will ever be dropped off at the airport by boat. Never say never, but… Also, it has been the only time that we were delayed leaving a hotel because the tides were too high for the boat to pass under the bridges in the canal. Luckily, there is not much traffic at 5am even in Venice! We arrived at the airport before the sun rose, and with plenty of time to figure out all the in’s and out’s of international travel from Italy. Italy to London, London to Chicago, Chicago to Nashville. We started our travel day at 5am on Friday and returned to the house in Nashville around 9pm, also on Friday. Total travel time: approximately 23 hours. Now, that is a long Friday!

We chased the sun all day through the air, and touched down in Nashville well after sunset. Our layovers were really nonexistent by the time we managed security, passport checks, and baggage claims (and rechecks). We also had minimal delays for takeoffs. Back home at 9pm, and quite exhausted from all the travel. I am positive that we went through security checks no fewer than 5 times today—possibly more.

We logged an average of 12595 steps each day, for a total of over 60 miles walked.

The entire trip seems quite surreal. Italy—you’re gorgeous and we had a fabulous visit. Until next time, arrivederci!
