Planes, Baggage Claim, and Minivans

Like I mentioned before, today is a travel day. The primary goal is to get from our apartment in Queenstown, overlooking the lake and mountains, to our apartment in Auckland, overlooking the harbor and shipyard.

We had a slight departure delay in Queenstown that put us about 30 minutes behind schedule. Not a big deal, we are on vacation. That was added to the really weird way the bags came out of the chute in Auckland. The belt ran for a few minutes and a couple of our bags shot out. Then it shut off for more than a few minutes before spinning up again and depositing our remaining bags. Now we were about an hour behind schedule. A quick dash through the Hertz counter and we were on our way in a different minivan. Sadly this was not Supervan, but it would have to do.

We found the apartment building quite a bit later than the person greeting was expecting, and she had already left. When Melissa tried the number on the booking, it was reported to be no longer in service. We were getting a little concerned about where we might be sleeping. Melissa finally found a working number and reconnected with Karen. About 20 minutes later, we had the keys and were in the apartment. We used booking.com in Ireland and on the southern island without issue, and after we got past the 'check-in' process, we found that our apartment in Auckland would work just fine. All settled in, we just wandered down to the local pub and got some of the same for dinner. Tomorrow begins the next leg of the adventure.
