So shockingly, Greg has been spending his mornings working. I guess it can be seen as an advantage that here on the Pacific coast we are two hours earlier—Greg can be up at 6:00 am and ready to communicate with everyone in Nashville where it’s 8:00 am, and we can be asleep. Win, win! Except he’s working and hasn’t updated our vacation antics, so I’ll help out for a bit. Greg is also focusing on his videos—vlogging?—that might be an outdated term. I’ll ask the young folk. He’s putting together some really fun stuff. Don’t know how many non-Flatt’s will be interested, but I really love it.
As can be seen in the first two posts, 2/3 of our family has been conspicuously absent. The kids’ school did not rearrange final exams to fit my personal schedule, so the rest of us flew out to San Francisco to join Elizabeth and Greg. We started off with a drive to the airport through a tremendous thunderstorm, and then a three and a half hour delay of departure, but Ryan, Gillian, Audrey, and I eventually made it safely to San Francisco just after midnight Pacific time followed by an hour drive to our RV. Yes, that makes it about 3 am Central, so we were pretty wiped out. Time for Family Fun to begin!
We decided to take it fairly easy for our first together day since we were working on very little sleep. We took a drive across through Point Reyes and down to see Muir Woods, with an easy hike through the California Redwoods. They are absolutely gorgeous. We’ve taken hundreds of pictures, but there is really just no way to transfer how beautiful they are. Old growth redwoods easily top 250-350 feet tall. They have a fire resistant outer layer, so many of them have hollow centers with viable exteriors. Their uppermost foliage are smaller because of the time and effort needed to get water all the way up there. We have an excellent pamphlet with even more fun facts for those who are interested.
After our walk, we drove into Sausalito for a lovely dinner by the water. A fun note for those of us who hail from the South. The radio hosts warned that if you were hot today, tomorrow would be even warmer. I think it’s 62 degrees!
