Well, our trip is coming to a close. I am sitting out on the balcony, watching the surf and listening to a gaggle of children making happy noises. These are not my children, they are mostly still asleep. What they don't know is I went out and bought fresh baked doughnuts for breakfast.
The past two days have been more 'vacation' and less 'trip'. We spent Wednesday at the pool and the beach. I was a little surprised to find Hawaii doesn't seem to have natural sandy beaches. These are all man-made, including the world famous Waikiki. So there isn't too much to report. It was a lazy day. We did swim out to the reef in front of the hotel and saw some fish. Melissa continued to enjoy the lazy river.
On Thursday we found our way down to the largest, open-air, mall in the world. It was time to get some fun stuff to bring home with us. From there we drove up the east coast of Oahu to find the Shrimp Shack food truck. I ordered the surf and surf, hot. It was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately they do not bottle the hot sauce, but I did get them to tell me what was in it. I will attempt to approximate it when I get home. Melissa also had the surf and surf and wasn't very impressed. I am not really sure why she orders fish since she doesn't like it most of the time.
Our finally activity for the day was the Polynesian Cultural Center for a Lu'au and a broadway class show. They did a very nice job and by happenstance we were randomly seated with a Mother and Daughter from East Nashville. Out of several hundred people we most likely found the only other Nashvillians. The show was pretty phenomenal. It was an hour and a half of non-stop hula and fire dancing. The Polynesian Cultural Center showcases 6 Pacific cultures: Fiji, Tahiti, Somoa, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Tonga, and our host islands of Hawaii. We recommend it.
